Anime Expo 2007
Summary by Nick
Anime Expo 2007 was another lightyear ahead of previous DEEP SEKH Tournaments, not unlike Dundracon 31 - 2007 and Mikomicon 2006 before. We had more participants in the tournament than we have had in the past, and up to three tables running games at once. The most time-consuming feature seems to be the set-up and the Knowledge checks made in the beginning of each match, largely because they have to be monitored by a DM, and at times I was the only DM that could take care of the three tables. Also, in all likelihood, I will discontinue using miniatures in future events (except, perhaps, Story Mode adventures), because they seem to distract from the game and they are too much of a liability.
I got a fair amount of feedback at this convention, most of it falling under the "more characters of certain types" field. It seems that more spellcasters (and more diverse types of spellcasters) are desired, and naturally, more races of creatures. Based on the feedback that I received, I will focus on more 2nd-level characters for the next release, as opposed to "powerful race" characters with Level Adjustment.
Experience Points by Nick
Anime Expo 2007 was the first convention to see the following:
- 7 matches in 5 hours!
- Three-round Swiss tournament!
- $200 worth of prizes!
- Full team-integrated play (two players per team)!
- 14 players participated, for a total of 7 competing teams!
Goals for Next Convention
I was disappointed that I was unable to finish the Story Mode event for DEEP SEKH in time for this convention, but I fully intend to have the first chapter of the DEEP SEKH Story Mode game ready for Mikomicon this year (and certainly ready for the convention after that). Story Mode will be a high priority for me once I finish building the drow characters to finish off the Monster Mash release.
- Even more playable characters.
- Include Story Mode for players that aren't interested in PvP.
- Flesh out various magic systems. (Incarnum, Psionics, Soulbinding, Blade Magic, etc.)
- Original, homebrew maps.
- Overhaul all spell lists and sheets.
